As India sees an ever increasing deployment of Cleantech-focused products, including the rise of Electric Vehicles, Photovoltaic Panels, and Lithium Batteries, it has brought attention to the sustainable growth and Circular Economy.
Reuse and recycling of all the elements involved in the entire value chain, starting from manufacturing to end-of-life scrappage protocols of clean tech products, is important for various strategic reasons.
First and foremost, the environmental footprint and impact have to be minimized to make the products sustainable in both letter and spirit. Further, the recycling of critical materials in certain categories can reduce the energy consumption associated with mining and processing.
While there are incumbent norms governed by the local state-level Pollution Control Boards, there is indeed a requirement for holistic innovation in this space.
In view of the above, MNRE has launched an Initiative: "Innovation Challenge for Circularity in Renewable Energy Technologies – Batteries and Solar Photovoltaic" whereby proposals are invited by various companies working in this space and will be judged based on the Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
